Mr. Lucio C. Tan loves his motherland and cares for the people though he lives in the Philippines.
He has contributed for many major events, such as: the Asian Games in 1990, the relief of the fire disaster in Daxing'an Mountain, the flood control in 1998, the fight against SARS in 2003, the construction of "Water Cube" – for Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, the relief of Wenchuan Earthquake in 2008 and the relief of Yushu Earthquake in 2010.

 

Dr. Lucio C. Tan is also enthusiastic for donation to education and actively promotes Mandarin education. He has donated above 10 million yuan to kindergartens, primary schools, China Foreign Affairs University, Jimen University and other higher learning institutions. In addition, he also organizes "Chinese learning summer camp for Philippine Chinese students" every year. By 2010, he had sponsored 6,621 Philippine Chinese students to study in China. On March 15, 2010, Dr. Lucio C. Tan donated a Siku Quanshu (Complete Library in Four Branches of Literature) to Wanxiang Library, Shisi, Fujian. The book has 1500 volumes and about 600 million characters. He added a treasure to the library and also made important contribution to book collection of China.

To summarize, according to incomplete statistics, Mr. Lucio C. Tan has donated above 100 million yuan to China. He is the first overseas donor to the Disabled Living Foundation.

Dr. Lucio C. Tan is philanthropic. As an inheritor of Chinese culture and a bridge of Sino-Filipino friendship, he has been dedicated to promoting the peace and economic cooperation between his residing country and his native country. He enjoys a prestigious position among Chinese people abroad and wins respect and recognition from China's leaders. Several China Presidents and other state leaders have met him.


  In November 1996, when President Jiang Zemin visited the Philippines, he particularly met Dr. Lucio C. Tan and his family and praised the contribution of Tan's family to China.
  In January 1997, when Mr. Lucio C. Tan led a delegation of FFCCCII to visit China, President Jiang Zemin, Vice Premier Qian Qichen and other state leaders met him.
  In June 1997, Mr. Lucio C. Tan was awarded the honorary certificate of "Great Contribution to National Diplomatic Affairs" by Vice Premier Qian Qichen on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for his excellent work on Chinese diplomatic affairs in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
  On October 1, 1999, when Mr. Lucio C. Tan led a delegation of FFCCCII in total of 280 members and flew to China by a chartered plane to  participate in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the People's Republic of China, President Jiang Zemin and other state leaders met him. 
  In November 1999, when Premier Zhu Rongji attended Asian informal summit in Manila, he met the main members of Tan's family.
   In April 2002, China Xinhua News Agency published Lucio C. Tan Album and held a high-profile launch ceremony in Beijing. More than 200 people including Chen Jinhua and Luo Haocai, the Vice Chairmen of the CPPCC, and the officials of China Embassy in the Philippines attended this ceremony. China Xinhua News Agency published a special news release for it.
  In August 2002, when Dr. Lucio C. Tan led a delegation of the Philippine Council for the Promotion of Peaceful National Reunification to visit China, CPPCC Chairman Li Ruihuan and Foreign Minister Qian Qichen met him. 
  On September 12, 2002, NPC Chairman Li Peng led a delegation to visit the Philippines. He was received by Dr. Lucio C. Tan and his family at the Century Park Sheraton in Manila. 
  On February 28, 2003, Dr. Lucio C. Tan was invited to attend the Fifth Meeting of the 6th All China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and was appointed an advisor. Vice Premier Qian Qichen issued a certificate to him. 
  In 2003, Dr. Lucio C. Tan attended the reception for celebrating the National Day of China and took photos with new Chinese leaders including NPC Chairman Wu Bangguo, CPPCC Chairman Jia Qinglin and Vice Premier Huang Ju.
  On March 1, 2004, the Meeting of the Review Committee for Excellent Chinese Cultural Works was held by the Chinese Council on the Chinese Yan-Huang Cultural Studies in the assembly hall of the CPPCC. Dr. Lucio C. Tan was the honorary director of the committee.
  In May 2005, Mr. Lucio C. Tan received new Chinese top leader Hu Jintao and his delegation in Manila.

On January 16, 2008, Wen Jiabao, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC and Premier, met Lucio C. Tan and his wife in the Great Hall of the People, who attended the inaugural ceremony of China Overseas Chinese Entrepreneurs Association.
On January 16, 2008, 15 people including Lucio C. Tan were elected executive vice chairmen at the First General Assembly and the First Meeting of the First Council of China Overseas Chinese Entrepreneurs Association. 
  On January 28, 2008, on invitation of Beijing Government, Lucio C. Tan and his wife attended the completion ceremony of National Aquatics Center "Water Cube". 
  On February 28, 2008, Jia Qinglin, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC met the delegation of Lucio C. Tan in the Great Hall of the People. 
  On August 8, 2008, Jia Qinglin, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC and Chairman of the CPPCC, met Lucio C. Tan and his wife among the nearly 200 overseas Chinese representatives who will be present at the opening ceremony of "Beijing 29th Olympic Games" in Diaoyutai State Guesthouse. 
 



 

On August 8, 2008, on invitation, Mr. Lucio C. Tan attended the opening ceremony of "the 29th Olympic Games" in Beijing. 

On August 10, 2008, Li Haifeng, the Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council met Mr. Lucio C. Tan and his family in Diaoyutai State Guesthouse and invited them to a banquet there.

  On November 18, 2008, Director Li Haifeng and Deputy Director Xu Yousheng met a delegation of FFCCCII led by Mr. Lucio C. Tan in total of 50 persons in Diaoyutai State Guesthouse and invited them to a banquet there. 
  On November 19, 2008, Jia Qinglin, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC and Chairman of the CPPCC met a delegation of FFCCCII led by Dr. Lucio C. Tan in the Great Hall of the People. 
   On December 25, 2008, Li Haifeng, the Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council met a delegation led by Dr. Lucio C. Tan, the Permanent Honorary Board Chairman of FFCCCII. 
  On October 1, 2009, on invitation of Chinese Government, Dr. Lucio C. Tan and his wife attended the celebration for the 60th anniversary of the People's Republic of China in Beijing. 
  On November 21, 2009, after attending "the 10th World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention" held in Manila, the Philippines, Xu Yousheng, the Deputy Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council met Dr. Lucio C. Tan, the Chairman of the Convention. 
   On April 30, 2010, Li Haifeng, the Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council met Dr. Lucio C. Tan and other overseas Chinese representatives attending the opening ceremony of Shanghai World Expo and invited them to a banquet. 
  On April 30, 2010, on invitation of Chinese Government, Dr. Lucio C. Tan attended the opening ceremony of the 41st World Expo in Shanghai as a representative of eminent overseas Chinese. 
  On September 2, 2010, on invitation Dr. Lucio C. Tan and his wife attended the 2010 Sixth Northeast Asia Investment and Trade Expo.
  On October 10, 2010, Dr. Lucio C. Tan went to Tianjin and attended "the Third Executive Council of the First China Overseas Chinese Entrepreneurs Association", "China • Tianjin 2010 Fair for Business Development of Overseas Chinese and Chinese in Binhai New Area" and other activities.
